The Chalet Club have been synonymous ever since Dr. Washburn opened the Chalet's doors to guests in 1934. Whether you want to swim, fish, canoe, or take a leisurely boat ride - the Chalet is equipped to suit your needs. Remember, these involve no additional charge if you are enjoying B&B rate plan. The Club's lake front facilities are 5 minutes or less than a two mile drive from the Chalet. For those who wish to enjoy some "hydrotherapy" behind a ski boat - Chalet WaterSports, LLC can provide those services at their hourly fee.
Water Sports Recreation Venues
SwimmingThe Isothermal Effect that was mentioned in the "On the Mountain" page makes for an extended water sports season as well. Water temperatures usually rise into the mid to upper 70 degree range before the end of April, rise into the 80's for the summer and stay warm well into October. The purity of Lake Lure makes it a wonderful lake for all forms of water activity. The two swimming pools on the mountain are open during daylight hours and are accompanied with comfortable lounge chairs.
Boating
The Washburn Family has such a rich history with the joys of electric boating, we established the Southern Highlands Electric Boat Company - authorized dealer for the Duffy Electric Boat Company. If electric boats interest you - please click on the logo below - and look at what they can do while being extremely environmentally friendly.
Fishing Our "Gray Logs" recreation house and swimming beach can serve as home base for the rest of the family while little anglers drown worms fishing from one of the Chalet's docks. The two mile stretch of the Rocky Broad River above Lake Lure is one of the most heavily stocked trout streams in the state with over 10,000 fish stocked annually.
Water SkiingDuring the late '50's we added water skiing to the list of activities for our guests. Through the process of teaching thousands of beginners of all ages over the past four decades, we have developed methods of instruction that bring families back year after year to improve their skiing skills and enjoy "hydrotherapy" behind our ski boats. Along with the water skiing, Chalet WaterSports, LLC offers other forms of water sports that take place behind our pontoon and ski boats - all using the latest equipment from Connelly. Kneeboarding, wakeboarding and tubing are available as well as wet suits for any cooler days. All of these activities are geared for everyone who is young at heart. We have taught skiers in a wide age range. Come experience our "prop-wash of youth"!

sit-on-top Kayaks, or take more of the family with you in either our 12 passenger
Duffy "Classic" series electric boat. One hour daily use of these boating options are included at no charge in our
B&B rate plan.
